Donald Sutherland and I are a lot alike. We were both born in Saint John, New Brunswick, we both have white beards, and neither of us can vote in a Canadian election even though we hold only Canadian citizenship. Donald Sutherland and 1.4 million other expat Canadians like ourselves have been disenfranchised by a ruling of the Ontario courts.
For Donald Sutherland's eloquent criticism of that ruling, click his image:
Now, to brass tacks. Here is a copy of the ruling as specified by Elections Canada. (Again for more details or more clarity, click on the image)

So, the facts are as follows:
- Even though I am a Canadian citizen, my right to vote has been removed by a decision by the Ontario courts.
- Article 21 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (adopted unanimously by all members of the UN in 1948) states:"Everyone has the right to take part in the government of his country, directly or through freely chosen representatives."
- Therefore, Canada is now in violation of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
Even though my country has disenfranchised me, I will now blog on various issues for the upcoming election. I admit to not being a Harper fan, but I will do my best to put forward each party's stand on foreign policy issues, energy, employment, and fundamental rights.
I plan to be a very Lively Albatross!
